Overview
- The second phase of the 21st OBMEP was applied on Saturday, October 17, starting at 14:30 Brasília time, with more than 900,000 students who qualified from about 18.3 million first-phase entrants taking the exam.
- Students faced a three-hour discursive test of six questions worth 20 points each, with strict ID requirements, a 45-minute minimum time in the room, and a ban on consultation materials and electronic devices.
- Organizers will publish the final list of national medalists and honorees on December 15, and this edition will award 8,450 national medals (650 gold, 1,950 silver, 5,850 bronze) plus 51,000 honorable mentions.
- National medalists gain access to the Programa de Iniciação Científica (PIC Jr.) with advanced math classes and a CNPq monthly scholarship of R$300, while OBMEP Mirim teacher winners may receive training, in-person activities paid by Impa, and project grants of R$700 for implementation.
- Impa administered the tests across Brazil with federal support from MCTI and MEC and academic backing from ANPMat, continuing OBMEP’s long-standing role of scouting math talent and now adding a pathway to strengthen primary‑school math teaching.
