Overview

  • The Stadtrat von Oberwiesenthal signed off on June 24 on the €10.4 million sale of the municipal Fichtelberg Schwebebahn GmbH to the Unternehmerfamilie Gläß.
  • The Gläß family, which built its fortune in software, also acquired the summit’s Hotel Fichtelberghaus as part of the transaction.
  • Ownership will transfer to Liftgesellschaft Oberwiesenthal in mid-August, clearing the way for immediate project planning.
  • A two-year, roughly €21 million build is planned for a new six-seat chairlift at Himmelsleiter, including a water reservoir for enhanced snowmaking.
  • The city will retain influence through its land holdings and will collaborate with the new owner on upgrades to the main slope and snowmaking infrastructure.
