Overview

• The National Seismological Service recorded a magnitude 4.2 quake at 03:01 local time on October 19 northeast of Ocotlán de Morelos, Oaxaca, at a depth of 62.4 km (approx. 16.907°, -96.619°).
• Oaxaca experienced a series of tremors from about 02:00 with events between roughly 3.5 and 4.2 across areas including Río Grande, Matías Romero, Pinotepa Nacional, San Pedro Pochutla, Salina Cruz and Puerto Escondido.
• Civil Protection and fire authorities in Oaxaca reported no injuries or structural damage following the overnight seismic activity.
• Mexico City's seismic alert did not activate because the events were below SASMEX activation parameters, which consider distance and typically require magnitudes near 6 to trigger citywide warnings.
• A separate magnitude 4.2 quake was registered the prior night near Pichucalco, Chiapas, and monitoring of low-to-moderate regional activity continues.
