Oaxaca Restores Services in 34 Municipalities as Post-Erick Recovery Shifts to Rebuilding

Government teams have shifted to phase two of recovery by focusing on school reconstruction in Oaxaca's worst-hit regions.

Overview

  • Basic utilities—electricity, internet and telephony—have been fully restored in all 34 affected municipalities less than a month after Hurricane Erick made landfall.
  • A coordinated effort of 1,300 public servants from 82 agencies identified communities within 72 hours and reactivated water services by deploying 152 trucks and installing three purification plants.
  • The Ve’e tata–Salud en tu municipio program delivered nearly 12,000 medical and wellness services across 109 communities as part of ongoing health interventions.
  • Recovery teams have demolished 17 severely damaged school buildings, begun repairs on five more and assessed 377 facilities to prioritize reconstruction.
  • More than 6,000 homes have received rehabilitation aid with nearly 85,000 metal sheets distributed, while road, bridge and tourism infrastructure repairs support economic reactivation.
