Oakland City Council Unanimously Approves Street Renamed in Honor of Rap Legend Tupac Shakur

A portion of MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland will be renamed "Tupac Shakur Way" to commemorate Tupac's contributions to the city's culture.
The initiative was introduced by District 3 Councilmember Carroll Fife and approved unanimously by the City Council.
Tupac lived in Oakland in the late 1980s and early 1990s, crediting the city with launching his music career.
Commemorative plaques and signs marking the renaming will be funded by the Tupac Shakur Foundation.
Oakland has previously honored other influential figures like Huey P. Newton and Too $hort with street renamings.
