• On May 28, a CHP chase of a stolen Infiniti G35 ended when the driver lost control on East 21st Street and struck two pedestrians after officers called off the pursuit.
• The deceased pedestrian was identified as Dr. Marvin Boomer, a Castlemont High math teacher and pathway coach, whose community held a candlelight vigil in his honor.
• Eighteen-year-old Eric Hernandez Garcia ran from the scene but was arrested and faces charges including felony vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and evading police.
