Oakland Athletics Sign Veteran Infielder Gio Urshela

The 33-year-old journeyman joins his eighth team, adding depth to the Athletics' infield as they prepare for the 2025 season.

Gio Urshela has agreed to a major league contract with the Oakland Athletics, according to multiple sources, though terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Urshela, a nine-year MLB veteran, played for the Detroit Tigers and Atlanta Braves in 2024, finishing the season with a .250 batting average, nine home runs, and 52 RBIs in 128 games.
Primarily a third baseman, Urshela has demonstrated versatility by playing every infield position over the past two years.
The Athletics, who will play in Sacramento for the next three seasons before moving to Las Vegas, have been active this offseason, also signing pitcher Luis Severino and trading for Rays starter Jeffrey Springs.
Urshela brings a career .273 batting average, 73 home runs, and 332 RBIs across stints with seven teams, including a notable three-year stretch with the New York Yankees from 2019 to 2021.
