NYSE Plans to Extend Trading Hours to 22 Hours a Day

The New York Stock Exchange seeks SEC approval to offer nearly round-the-clock trading on its electronic platform.

  • The NYSE Arca electronic exchange aims to operate from 1:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays, excluding holidays.
  • Currently, U.S. equities trading on the NYSE occurs between 9:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with some pre-market and after-hours sessions.
  • The extension proposal reflects increased demand for continuous trading and competition from platforms like Robinhood and cryptocurrency exchanges.
  • Approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission is required before the extended trading hours can be implemented.
  • All U.S.-listed stocks, ETFs, and closed-end funds will be available for trading during the proposed extended hours on NYSE Arca.
