NYPD Seeks Two in Lower East Side Anti-Immigrant Hate Crime, Releases Surveillance Images

Police released surveillance images, asking the public to contact Crime Stoppers.

Overview

  • The NYPD on Sept. 29 published photos and video of two men sought in a Sept. 8 attack near Allen and East Houston Streets and urged tips to Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
  • Investigators say the pair yelled anti-immigrant remarks at a 26-year-old man, then punched him and slashed his arm before fleeing on foot.
  • The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
  • The Hate Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation; both suspects are described as about 25–30 years old, 5-foot-8, slender, with short brown hair, brown eyes and brown beards.
  • One suspect wore a blue-and-white plaid shirt over a white T-shirt with tan pants and white shoes, while the other wore a gray hoodie and dark shoes; the 7th Precinct has logged eight hate crimes this year, down from 13 at this point last year.
