NYPD Seeks Suspects in Spate of Unconnected NYC Subway Attacks Over Holiday Weekend

Police are circulating suspect images, requesting tips from riders.

Overview

  • A 35-year-old was pushed onto the southbound R tracks at 36th Street in Sunset Park around 5 a.m. on Jan. 18; he climbed to safety and was treated at NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn, and police released photos of the fleeing suspect.
  • A 16-year-old was slashed on the back of the head at the Seneca Avenue M station in Ridgewood around 3 p.m. on Jan. 19 after a brief exchange; EMS took him to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and the NYPD circulated a surveillance image.
  • An MTA conductor, 46, was punched on the northbound 7 platform at 74th Street–Roosevelt Avenue on Jan. 19, was treated at Elmhurst Hospital, and investigators posted images of the man they say ran from the station.
  • In a separate Jan. 10 case, a 28-year-old was cut in the face on a 6 train near 23rd Street after a dispute the NYPD described as involving anti-LGBTQIA+ statements; he was treated at Bellevue and the assailant left the scene.
  • Officials reported a 4% decline in major subway crime in 2025 compared with 2024, even as detectives say multiple suspects in these incidents remain unidentified.
