Overview
- Police say a 31-year-old rider was slashed at about 5:23 p.m. on Aug. 29 aboard a Queens-bound A train near the Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets station in Brooklyn.
- The confrontation began after the victim accidentally bumped the attacker, who allegedly pulled a sharp object from a backpack and cut the man’s face and left wrist.
- The assailant exited at Hoyt-Schermerhorn and fled before officers from the 84th Precinct and NYPD Transit District 30 could intervene, and he remains at large.
- Investigators released images of the suspect, described as last seen in a black hat, blue pants and a black sweater, and urged tips via Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or online, with confidentiality assured.
- The victim was treated with stitches at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center and listed in stable condition, as NYPD data show year-to-date increases in assaults (up 10%) and transit crime (up 24.2%) in the 84th Precinct.
