NYPD Seeks Public Help to Identify East Harlem Pipe Assault Suspect

Surveillance images with a detailed physical description accompany an ongoing investigation into the metal pipe beating of a 67-year-old man in East Harlem.

Overview

  • The assault took place just before 10 p.m. on August 3 outside a Pleasant Avenue deli near E. 117th Street following a dispute between the suspect and the victim.
  • Authorities describe the attacker as light-complexioned, medium build, between 5′10″ and 6′1″ tall and last seen wearing a black sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and black sneakers.
  • Investigators recovered surveillance footage showing the suspect pacing on the corner, carrying a black backpack with a water bottle and spitting on the sidewalk.
  • The 67-year-old victim suffered minor injuries and was treated in stable condition at Metropolitan Hospital.
  • No arrests have been made and police are urging anyone with information to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
