NYPD Releases Suspect Photos in Upper East Side Senior ATM Scam

The NYPD is appealing for tips after nine card-swapping thefts between May and June drained more than $50,000 from seniors in their 80s and 90s.

  • Investigators connected nine incidents at Chase, Bank of America, Capital One and Citibank branches across Manhattan’s Upper East Side from May 8 to June 26.
  • The largest single haul was nearly $24,000 taken from an 86-year-old customer at a Chase Bank on York Avenue on June 19.
  • None of the targeted customers were physically harmed despite losses exceeding $50,000 in total.
  • Grand larceny reports in the 19th Precinct have risen 5% even as they fall 7% citywide, and tips can be submitted via the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers hotline or website.
