Newly released footage shows three 32nd Precinct officers diving into frigid water to pull a teenager to safety.

Overview

  • Officers Wilmer Guerrero, Ankit Gupta, and Shuaibul Amine were identified as the rescuers in the Nov. 11 incident near 142nd Street and Harlem River Drive.
  • They jumped a fence, shed their vests and gun belts, and moved toward the river as the teen cried for help, according to the video and officer accounts.
  • Guerrero entered the water and guided the girl to the shore while Gupta and Amine helped pull both to safety in conditions that posed rapid hypothermia risk.
  • The teen was transported to a nearby hospital and was reported in stable condition following the rescue.
  • The NYPD publicly praised the officers and shared the body-worn camera footage, noting it was the trio’s first water rescue early in their careers.
