NYPD Officer Fatally Shoots Man Holding Mother in Chokehold

The incident, captured on bodycam footage, occurred in December during a domestic violence call in the Bronx.

Newly released bodycam footage shows NYPD officer firing a single shot at Michael Dotel, 30, who was holding his mother in a chokehold and claiming to have a knife.
The confrontation took place on Dec. 23 in the Bronx, after police responded to a 911 call about a man acting violently and possibly high on drugs.
Dotel, who had a history of mental illness and pending criminal cases, was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital with a gunshot wound to the head.
Two other victims, including Dotel's mother and girlfriend, required medical treatment for injuries inflicted by Dotel.
The New York Attorney General's Office and the NYPD are conducting separate investigations into the shooting to determine if the use of force was justified.
