Overview

  • Fisher, a 12-year NYPD veteran, left Jamaica Hospital on Monday morning recovering from gunshot wounds to his right hand and left leg.
  • Police say 28-year-old Kevin Dubuisson was arrested after an attempted carjacking spree in Whitestone and is charged with assault, attempted robbery, grand larceny and menacing.
  • Prosecutors said Dubuisson tried to steal a car at a gas station, displayed what appeared to be a gun, then targeted another vehicle with a crowbar-like object before collisions injured a woman and her 87-year-old mother.
  • As uniformed officers arrived with guns drawn, shots were fired that struck Fisher, who had approached in plainclothes after stopping the suspect by crashing into the stolen vehicle.
  • Officials highlighted Dubuisson’s prior arrests, including a desk appearance ticket for fare evasion the day before, and said he faces up to 32 years in prison if convicted.
