Overview

  • Brandon Balfour, 18, pleaded not guilty and is held without bail after his arrest for the Aug. 6 slashing of a 29-year-old woman on a northbound No. 3 train at Wall Street, where he faces attempted murder and other charges.
  • Carlos Rivera, 21, was arrested earlier this week for the unprovoked stabbing of a 25-year-old woman at the 23rd Street Chelsea station and faces attempted murder and related charges.
  • Investigators are still hunting the suspect who shoved a 44-year-old man onto the tracks at the 50th Street and 7th Avenue No. 1 train platform after the victim climbed back to safety and was hospitalized in stable condition with facial and leg injuries.
  • Separate attacks over the weekend left a 33-year-old man slashed in the neck on a southbound No. 2 train in the Bronx and a 78-year-old man cut in Hell’s Kitchen; both were treated and listed as stable while their assailants remain unidentified.
  • The spate of high-visibility incidents has kept subway safety in focus despite NYPD data showing a year-over-year drop in transit felony assaults for July.
