Overview
- A 911 call around 1:03 p.m. on Nov. 30 reported a person in the water near Furman Street and Montague Street across from Manhattan’s Pier 11.
- Body-cam video shows officers tossing a life ring as one says, “He’s too frozen. He’s gonna fall off,” before two officers climb over a railing and dive in.
- The rescuers swam the man to the rocks and used a ladder as a backboard to lift him out for paramedics.
- Police say Emergency Service, aviation, and scuba units also responded, and the man was taken to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital in stable condition.
- Authorities have not said how the man ended up in the East River.
