  • Five Central Harlem residents have been diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease since July 25 and no fatalities have been reported
  • The Department of Health is sampling water from all cooling tower systems in ZIP codes 10027, 10030, 10035 and 10037
  • Several other individuals in the area are undergoing tests for possible Legionnaires’ infection with results expected soon
  • Officials note that Legionnaires’ disease cannot spread between people and is most serious for older adults, smokers and those with chronic lung conditions
