  • Through May 31, shootings fell 20% to 264 incidents and homicides declined 28% to 112 compared with the same period in 2024; May alone recorded just 54 shootings and 18 murders, the lowest monthly tallies since CompStat began in 1994.
  • A Summer Violence Reduction Plan initiated on May 5 identified 70 high-crime zones and deployed more than 1,500 officers during peak hours, driving a 65% drop in shootings within targeted precincts.
  • By June 1, overall felony crime had fallen 6% to 47,258 incidents, while reported rapes rose 27% after the state broadened the legal definition of sexual assault.
  • The NYPD has seized 2,200 firearms so far this year, contributing to a total of over 22,000 guns removed from New York City streets since January 2022.
  • Public sentiment remains wary despite the crime declines, with 56% of likely Democratic primary voters calling crime a major problem and juvenile shooting incidents up 192% since 2018 following the Raise the Age law.
