NYC School Staff Misused Funds for Homeless Students on Family Disney Trips

An investigative report reveals that New York City school employees took family trips using money meant for homeless students' educational outings.

The investigation began in March 2019 after a complaint about misuse of funds in the Queens Students in Temporary Housing (STH) program.
Linda Wilson, the Queens STH regional manager, and other staff members allegedly forged permission slips to take their families on trips meant for homeless students.
Trips included destinations like Disney World, Washington D.C., and Niagara Falls, with some having little to no educational value.
The report recommends firing Wilson and other implicated staff members, none of whom are currently employed by New York City Public Schools.
The New York City School District acted immediately upon receiving the report, emphasizing the need to support students in temporary housing.
