NYC Medical Examiner Rules Jacob Zieben-Hood’s Death a Homicide

Prosecutors say the homicide investigation remains active pending further court action.

Overview

  • The Office of Chief Medical Examiner on Oct. 17 found multiple blunt and sharp force injuries and cited acute alcohol and lorazepam intoxication with chronic alcohol use as contributing factors.
  • Zieben-Hood, 34, was discovered on Aug. 1 in his Harlem bathroom with stab wounds to his legs, and responders documented a residence in disarray with blood on surfaces, according to the DA.
  • Husband Donald Zieben-Hood was arrested that day and later indicted on burglary, assault, criminal contempt and weapons counts, has pleaded not guilty, and has not been charged in the death.
  • The Manhattan DA’s office said no additional updates will come before the next court date, which court records list as Jan. 7, 2026.
  • Court records detail prior alleged assaults, a protective-order violation and a June knife threat, and note Jacob’s July 31 texts to his father reporting an attack with photos of his injuries.
