NYC Man Charged with Murder After Roommate's Torso Found in East River Suitcase

Christian Millet, 23, allegedly killed his 65-year-old roommate Edwin Echevarria during a dispute, dismembered the body, and disposed of it in the river.

The remains of Edwin Echevarria, 65, were discovered on February 5 in a suitcase floating near Governor's Island in New York City's East River.
Christian Millet, 23, who lived with Echevarria in a Lower East Side apartment, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death.
Police allege Millet confessed to stabbing Echevarria 14 times with a makeshift ice pick, dismembering him with a kitchen knife, and disposing of the body in the river.
The alleged murder reportedly stemmed from an argument over food in their shared apartment at the NYCHA Baruch Houses.
Echevarria was described by family and neighbors as a kind-hearted man who took Millet in due to his troubled family background, despite warnings from others.
