The victim, a 56-year-old worker, was hospitalized in stable condition following the attack.
Ali fled the scene and was later spotted driving a stolen car on the New York State Thruway on Wednesday.
After crashing the vehicle and fleeing into the woods, Ali was located by state troopers using a trail camera.
During a confrontation with police, Ali was shot and killed after refusing to drop a knife and charging at officers.
