Overview
- The new network launches Dec. 8 with a direct Staten Island–Brooklyn connection and a combined Soundview–Rockaway route creating a one-seat ride from Throgs Neck to the Rockaways.
- East River service will operate as two routes for most of the day to speed trips, with a local that serves all stops on weekday middays and on winter weekends to preserve connectivity.
- South Brooklyn boats gain direct Midtown access, while Bay Ridge and Sunset Park come off the regular route pending a summer 2026 weekend pilot to test restoring those stops.
- NYCEDC plans two new landings at East Harlem’s 125th Street and at the MADE/Bush Terminal in Sunset Park, and will expand the East 34th Street terminal to add capacity.
- Citing roughly 15,000 public comments with strong support, officials forecast at least 1 million additional riders over two years and report a current $8.33 per-rider subsidy with a projected $1 decline by 2028; the ferry fare is $4.50 as the subway and bus fare moves to $3 in January.
