NYC Early Voting Opens With Record Pace as Mayoral Contest Intensifies

Early turnout dwarfs 2021 levels, reflecting heightened interest in a three-way race led in polls by Zohran Mamdani.

Overview

  • New York City’s Board of Elections reported 164,190 check-ins through the first two days of early voting, setting a record pace for a mayoral general election.
  • Day 1 drew 79,409 voters citywide — roughly five times 2021’s opening-day figure — with 24,046 in Manhattan, 22,105 in Brooklyn, 19,045 in Queens, 7,793 in the Bronx and 6,420 on Staten Island.
  • A Fox 5 poll shows Mamdani leading by 21 points, and betting markets give him over a 90% chance of winning, while early voting continues through Nov. 2 ahead of Election Day on Nov. 4.
  • Hakeem Jeffries endorsed Mamdani on Friday as Eric Adams, who exited the race but remains on the ballot, backs Andrew Cuomo; Republican Curtis Sliwa voted early and rejected calls to drop out.
  • The ballot also includes races for comptroller, public advocate, borough presidents, district attorneys and six proposals on housing and election timing, with NYPD reporting smooth operations at early-voting sites.
