NYC Aesthetician Charged for Injecting Clients with Counterfeit Botox

Joey Grant Luther allegedly imported fake Botox from Asia, causing serious health issues, and continued treatments despite knowing the risks.

Joey Grant Luther, 54, was arrested and charged with wire fraud, smuggling, and other crimes for injecting counterfeit Botox at his Hell’s Kitchen medical spa, JGL Aesthetics.
Luther lacked the required New York State medical license to administer Botox and falsely claimed the counterfeit product was genuine and FDA-approved.
Clients reported severe side effects, including double vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, and one confirmed case of botulism requiring hospitalization.
Despite complaints and intercepted shipments of counterfeit Botox, Luther continued using the product and sought additional supplies from his overseas supplier.
If convicted, Luther faces up to 20 years in prison on the most serious charge, with a total of five charges carrying varying maximum sentences.
