NYC Aesthetician Charged for Injecting Clients with Counterfeit Botox

Joey Grant Luther allegedly imported fake Botox from Asia, causing serious health issues, and continued treatments despite knowing the risks.

  • Joey Grant Luther, 54, was arrested and charged with wire fraud, smuggling, and other crimes for injecting counterfeit Botox at his Hell’s Kitchen medical spa, JGL Aesthetics.
  • Luther lacked the required New York State medical license to administer Botox and falsely claimed the counterfeit product was genuine and FDA-approved.
  • Clients reported severe side effects, including double vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty swallowing, and one confirmed case of botulism requiring hospitalization.
  • Despite complaints and intercepted shipments of counterfeit Botox, Luther continued using the product and sought additional supplies from his overseas supplier.
  • If convicted, Luther faces up to 20 years in prison on the most serious charge, with a total of five charges carrying varying maximum sentences.
