NY Times Reporter Sues Real Housewives Star's Ex for Alleged Rape

Sarah Maslin Nir alleges Garth Wakeford assaulted her in 2001, lawsuit filed under New York's Adult Survivors Act

New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir has filed a lawsuit against Garth Wakeford, a personal trainer and ex-boyfriend of Real Housewives of New York star Luann de Lesseps, alleging he raped her in 2001 when she was 18 and he was 31.
Nir alleges that Wakeford, who was working as a bouncer at a music venue, knew she was underage but allowed her to enter and instructed the bartender to serve her drinks.
After offering to drive her home, Wakeford allegedly took an intoxicated Nir to a beach where the assault took place.
Nir claims that Wakeford admitted to the assault during a confrontation a year later.
The lawsuit was filed just before the expiration of New York's Adult Survivors Act, which allowed adult survivors to file lawsuits up to a year after the statute of limitations expired.
