NWS Warns of Strong Thunderstorm in Yosemite Until 9 p.m.

- The National Weather Service in Hanford issued an 8:29 p.m. update placing Yosemite and nearby foothill and Sierra zones under a strong thunderstorm alert effective until 9 p.m.
- Doppler radar detected a storm over Bootjack, about 16 miles west of the Yosemite South Entrance, moving northeast at roughly 30 mph.
- The system may produce pea-sized hail around 0.25 inches in diameter, and minor damage to vegetation is possible.
- Torrential rain and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning are occurring, and officials urge people to avoid flooded roads, seek enclosed shelter, and wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before resuming outdoor activity.
