NWS Warns of Evening Snow Squalls in Northern New York After Morning Wind Gusts

Brief bursts of heavy snow are cutting visibility along a line from Russell, NY to Underhill, VT.

Overview

  • The snow squall alert, issued at 5:55 p.m. Sunday, is in effect until 6:45 p.m. for Clinton, St. Lawrence, Franklin and Essex counties.
  • At 5:54 p.m., scattered squalls were observed moving southeast at about 25 mph along the Russell–Underhill corridor.
  • The National Weather Service advises that low visibility from squalls may create hazardous travel for motorists.
  • Earlier in the day, a 6:12 a.m. alert called for 35 to 45 mph gusts for one to two hours as a strong cold front crossed the St. Lawrence Valley and northern Adirondacks.
  • Forecasters warned that gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects and pose difficulties for drivers of high-profile vehicles.
