Overview

• The National Weather Service has issued targeted short-duration warnings since Aug. 15 in counties across Alabama, Michigan and Pennsylvania, forecasting wind gusts of 40 to 60 mph and hail from 0.25 to 1 inch.
• Forecasters have used Doppler radar to pinpoint nearly stationary or slow-moving convective cells over saturated terrain, timing warnings to localize impact windows.
• Storm reports have confirmed damaging gusts, pea- to inch-sized hail and torrential rain that have caused flash flooding, downed limbs and minor property damage.
• Alerts have consistently advised residents to seek indoor shelter, secure outdoor objects, avoid driving through flooded roadways and wait at least 30 minutes after the last thunderclap before resuming activities.
• The NWS continues close radar surveillance for storm redevelopment over vulnerable areas and warns that additional county-level warnings remain possible.
