NWS Issues Late-Morning Special Weather Statement for Upstate New York Through 2 P.M.

Persistently near-freezing temperatures are expected to keep surfaces slick this afternoon before a refreeze tonight.

Overview

  • The National Weather Service at 11:50 a.m. issued a special weather statement in effect until 2 p.m. for multiple counties, including Hamilton, Herkimer, Fulton, Montgomery, Saratoga, Warren, Washington, Schoharie, Schenectady and Albany.
  • Forecasters warn that roads and sidewalks may remain icy through the afternoon as temperatures hover in the low to mid 30s.
  • A drop below 32 degrees this evening could refreeze standing water and create new slick spots overnight.
  • Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use extra caution on untreated roads, highway ramps, parking lots and sidewalks.
  • An earlier 6:08 a.m. statement covered additional eastern and Hudson Valley counties after overnight freezing rain left a glaze on ground surfaces.
