Overview
- Beach Hazards Statements are in effect Sunday through Tuesday night for San Diego County and through Wednesday afternoon for Los Angeles/Oxnard zones, ending at 6 p.m. Oct. 1.
- Surf of roughly 4 to 7 feet with local sets to 8 feet is forecast on exposed south- and southwest-facing beaches, producing dangerous rip currents.
- Impacted areas include Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Ventura County beaches, the Malibu Coast, Los Angeles County beaches, and the San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara central coast.
- The National Weather Service warns of an increased drowning risk as rip currents can pull swimmers out to sea and waves can wash people off beaches and rocks or capsize small boats nearshore.
- Officials advise remaining out of the water or staying near occupied lifeguard towers and keeping off rock jetties, noting that vulnerable south-facing beaches may see shallow coastal flooding.
