NWS Flags Overnight Freezing Drizzle Risk for NYC, Long Island, New Jersey and Southeast Pennsylvania

The National Weather Service is using short-duration special statements to flag localized slick spots overnight.

Overview

  • Special weather statements are in effect Friday night for parts of New York City and Long Island through 2 a.m. Saturday.
  • Separate statements cover 11 New Jersey counties through 6 a.m. Saturday, including Middlesex, Monmouth, Mercer, Camden and Cape May.
  • Parts of southeast Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, Delaware, Lower Bucks, Eastern Chester and Eastern Montgomery, are included through 6 a.m. Saturday.
  • Forecasters say light precipitation may fall as freezing drizzle that can glaze untreated surfaces and rapidly create hazardous travel.
  • The statements also note the potential for freezing fog overnight, with slick spots and reduced visibility.
