Nvidia Shrinks DLSS 5 Model, Doubles Speed and Begins Game Rollout

The October model cuts GPU overhead and VRAM use to make neural rendering easier to run on more PCs.

Overview

  • Nvidia announced on October 13 that its October DLSS 5 update reduces the model by about 24% to roughly 118 million parameters, doubles execution speed versus the September build, and lowers 4K VRAM use by about 20 percent.
  • The company says those optimizations cut DLSS 5’s GPU overhead roughly in half, and the updated model will appear in NBA 2K27 in mid‑October before shipping by default with future DLSS 5 titles.
  • Nvidia is expanding availability to RTX 50‑series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW, with RTX Remix support planned to let classic games receive official neural‑rendering passes starting October 23.
  • Developers now have explicit tuning controls and many studios have used them to limit DLSS 5’s impact on character faces, with Hogwarts Legacy scheduled to receive a much subtler DLSS 5 implementation on November 5.
  • Nvidia also added a new Frame Generation Performance preset called Preset C for RTX 40/50 cards that swaps in a lighter AI model to boost frame rates up to about 35 percent, though early hands‑on tests show gains vary by hardware and settings.
