NVIDIA Releases Alpamayo 2 Super Under OpenMDW License

Available on Hugging Face under the Linux Foundation OpenMDW-1.1 license, the model lets automakers and developers fine-tune or deploy a multimodal driving system to address rare and complex road scenarios.

Overview

  • NVIDIA published Alpamayo 2 Super as an open, commercially usable model and placed it on Hugging Face under the permissive OpenMDW-1.1 license to allow fine-tuning, derivatives, and commercial redistribution.
  • The model is built on NVIDIA's Cosmos 3 Super Reasoner and was further trained with reinforcement learning to combine perception, scene understanding, causal reasoning, and decision-to-trajectory generation in real time.
  • NVIDIA reports that Alpamayo 2 Super leads the LingoQA benchmark and outscored Qwen2.5-VL 72B and Gemini 2.5 Pro on Lingo-Judge, positioning it as the highest-performance member of the Alpamayo series.
  • The company offers a product-tier strategy that keeps Alpamayo 2 Super for top inference performance while Alpamayo 1.5 and 1 serve as lower-cost options for cloud development and for distilling smaller, production-efficient models.
  • Independent validation, vehicle integration, safety testing, and regulatory review remain the next steps before commercial fleets can rely on the model in real-world driving, and the open license is intended to help OEMs retain control of their data and deployment choices.
