Overview

  • Nvidia plans to launch a lower-cost Blackwell-architecture AI GPU for China, with mass production expected to begin in June 2025.
  • The new chip, priced between $6,500 and $8,000, is designed to comply with U.S. export restrictions limiting GPU memory bandwidth to 1.7–1.8 terabytes per second.
  • Based on the RTX Pro 6000D, the GPU will use GDDR7 memory and omit advanced TSMC packaging technology to meet regulatory constraints.
  • The H20 ban in April 2025 led to a $5.5 billion inventory write-off and $15 billion in lost sales, as Nvidia's market share in China dropped from 95% to 50%.
  • Nvidia is also developing another Blackwell-based chip for China, targeting production in September, as it faces growing competition from Huawei’s Ascend 910B.
