Nvidia Launches Less Powerful RTX 4090DChinese Market Amid U.S. Trade Restrictions
The new GPU, designed to comply with U.S. export controls, is 5% less powerful than the original RTX 4090 and will be available in China starting in January.
- Nvidia has launched the RTX 4090D, a less powerful version of its high-performance RTX 4090 GPU, specifically for the Chinese market in response to U.S. trade restrictions.
- The RTX 4090D features 14,592 CUDA processing cores, compared to 16,384 in the standard RTX 4090, and a slightly lower power draw at 425W instead of 450W.
- The new GPU is just 5% less powerful than the original, but still respects the 4,800 TOPS speed limit established by the U.S. as the fastest that American hardware can achieve and still be sold in China.
- The RTX 4090D will be available in China starting in January for ¥12,999 (~$1,836 USD).
- The launch of the RTX 4090D represents Nvidia's latest attempt to comply with U.S. sanctions while still serving customers in China, one of its major markets.
