Overview
- Nvidia announced a £2 billion program with Accel, Air Street Capital, Balderton, Hoxton Ventures and Phoenix Court to fund UK AI startups and expand access to advanced computing in hubs including London, Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester.
- Nvidia said it and partners are deploying 120,000 Blackwell GPUs across the UK, with up to 60,000 due by 2026 to power new AI factories with Microsoft, Nscale, OpenAI and CoreWeave.
- Nscale and Microsoft plan a 50MW (scalable to 90MW) AI supercomputer at Nscale’s Loughton campus, initially hosting 23,040 Nvidia GB300 GPUs slated for delivery in Q1 2027 to support Azure workloads.
- Nscale, OpenAI and Nvidia launched Stargate UK to support sovereign workloads, with OpenAI exploring offtake of up to 8,000 GPUs starting Q1 2026 and potential expansion to 31,000 across sites including the Northeast’s Cobalt Park AI Growth Zone.
- Microsoft outlined a $30 billion UK commitment through 2028, with roughly half for cloud and AI infrastructure and the remainder for AI research, model development and related projects.
