Overview
- The DGX GB300 system was installed and formally commissioned on the NPS campus in Monterey during a July 22–23 event attended by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang and Adm. Samuel Paparo.
- Nvidia donated the GB300 to the NPS Foundation under a cooperative research and development agreement that began in December 2024 and the machine is now live on the school’s network.
- The system uses NVIDIA Grace CPUs and Blackwell GPUs and was integrated with storage and power systems supplied by partners including DDN, VAST Data and Vertiv.
- NPS and NVIDIA say the on‑site platform will be used for training foundation models, high‑fidelity simulations, digital twins and advanced ocean and weather modeling for student and faculty research.
- School leaders stress initial access will be carefully managed so students and researchers can learn responsible uses of AI while the program develops and demand grows.
