Nvidia Buys $1 Billion Stake in Nokia, Teams With Oracle on DOE AI Supercomputers

The moves extend Nvidia's AI footprint from carrier networks to national research compute.

Overview

  • Nvidia will acquire about 166.4 million new Nokia shares at $6.01 each for roughly a 2.9% stake to advance AI‑RAN and develop Nokia’s RAN software on Nvidia chips for 5G and 6G.
  • Oracle and Nvidia announced two DOE systems named Solstice and Equinox to be hosted at Argonne National Laboratory and linked using Nvidia networking.
  • Solstice is planned with 100,000 Blackwell GPUs, while Equinox will use 10,000 Blackwell GPUs and is targeted for availability in the first half of 2026.
  • DOE and Nvidia say the supercomputers will support U.S. priorities in security, science, and energy by enabling advanced AI research for open scientific access.
  • Nokia’s U.S. shares jumped roughly 21%–23% on the news and Nvidia gained around 5%, following the announcements made at Nvidia’s GTC event in Washington, D.C.
