Nursing Pay Rises 4.9% Nationwide, GKV Flags Higher Care-Home Costs

The insurance association says higher, tariff-aligned pay will lift out-of-pocket charges for care-home residents.

Overview

  • Average hourly wages for nursing staff increased to €23.70, a 4.9% rise that is smaller than last year’s roughly 9% jump.
  • Pay varies by state, led by Hamburg at €24.55 per hour and trailing in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern at €22.44, with larger gains reported in Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony.
  • By role, assistants without formal training average €20.26 per hour, one‑year trained assistants €22.62 and qualified nurses €27.06, according to the GKV snapshot.
  • The GKV estimates residents’ personal co-payments will rise by about €100 per month on average, with roughly €30 typically offset by relief supplements.
  • Long-term care insurance faces about €260 million in additional annual costs, and GKV chief Oliver Blatt urges policymakers to curb the burden on residents.
