Nuremberg–Thuringia Bratwurst Dispute Heads to Sept. 26 Boxfight in Mühlhausen

The ring bout was arranged after Erfurt researchers cited a 1269 record they say points to an earlier bratwurst stand.

Overview

  • Nuremberg restaurateur Sofia Hilleprandt proposed the contest, and Mühlhausen’s Bratwurstmuseum accepted to represent the Thuringian side.
  • Amateur boxer Hasan Arli will fight for Nuremberg against Kay "Der Thüringer" Löwentraut in five rounds of two minutes each.
  • At the weigh‑in, Löwentraut measured a little over 120 kilograms to Arli’s roughly 92, giving the home fighter a size edge.
  • Erfurt’s Martin Sladeczek and Karl Heinemeyer reported a 1269 mention of a hut and a roaster at the Krämerbrücke, a claim scholars are still examining.
  • Regensburg’s Wurstkuchl points to a 1378 reference and Nuremberg’s Zum Gulden Stern cites 1419, extending a rivalry over who has the oldest bratwurst kitchen.
