Nuevo León Reports Decade-Low Homicide Rate as Early October Killings Plunge 84%

Officials attribute the drop to joint operations backed by new technology.

  • Governor Samuel García reported an 84% year-over-year reduction in homicides during the first seven days of October.
  • From January to September 2025 the state recorded 586 homicides, a 53% decline versus the same period in 2024, for a rate of 9.18 per 100,000 inhabitants.
  • September 2025 registered 58 homicides, down 53% year over year, with an average of 1.93 killings per day, a 66% decrease from September 2024.
  • The figures were presented at a coordination meeting in the 7ª Zona Militar with state, federal and municipal security agencies and the state prosecutor’s office.
