Overview
- Nu announced the start of its U.S. operations and unveiled Nu Global, a multi‑currency digital account that is open for registration in more than 35 countries.
- Deposits in Nu Global will be converted into USDC or EURC stablecoins and earn advertised APYs of 3.5% for dollar balances and 2.2% for euro balances.
- U.S. customers will receive deposit and card services through Lead Bank, an FDIC member, and Nu plans to offer a virtual Mastercard with competitive exchange rates and no added margins.
- Nu said customers will be able to boost U.S. returns to 4.5% APY on up to $10,000 by linking the account to a Nu credit card and meeting transaction conditions, while the card will carry no annual fee and initial cashback at 1.5%.
- The move builds on Nu's more than 140 million Latin American customers and a staged rollout that starts with Europe–Latin America transfers, adds major Latin markets, and later expands U.S. integrations, which could change how people save and move money across borders by using stablecoins and in‑app crypto custody.
