NTT East Completes Repairs on Quake-Damaged Hachinohe Telecom Tower

The company reports the rooftop structure has returned to pre-quake strength with preventive maintenance to follow.

Overview

  • NTT East Japan announced on Dec. 26 that repairs to the NTT Aomori Hachinohe building’s rooftop tower are complete.
  • The company said the tower’s seismic capacity now matches its level before the Dec. 8 offshore earthquake.
  • Inspectors had found a broken pillar and dislodged bolts on the roughly 70‑meter structure after the strong shaking.
  • Repair work began on Dec. 15 with welding of the fractured section and re-tightening of bolts, meeting the year-end target.
  • Hachinohe lifted nearby evacuation instructions and a Route 45 closure on Dec. 23 after safety measures progressed.
