NTSB Probes LaGuardia Taxiway Collision Between Two Delta Jets After Recorders Recovered

Federal investigators are analyzing both jets' flight recorders to determine how the taxiway collision occurred.

Overview

  • Two Endeavor Air CRJ-900s operating as Delta Connection made contact around 9:56–9:58 p.m. at the intersection of taxiways M and A at LaGuardia, according to the FAA.
  • The departing Flight 5155 to Roanoke clipped the fuselage and cockpit area of arriving Flight 5047 from Charlotte, preliminary information from Delta indicates.
  • One flight attendant sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital; no passenger injuries were reported.
  • Images showed significant damage including a torn wing section and a shattered cockpit windscreen, and both aircraft are out of service pending inspection.
  • An NTSB team is on scene and has recovered flight recorders for analysis, while the FAA said the Virginia-bound plane had been told to hold short and yield; passengers were bused to the terminal, provided lodging and rebooking, and airport operations were not affected.
