Overview
- PG&E says a third-party crew struck an underground gas line around 7:35 a.m. during work on East Lewelling Boulevard in the unincorporated Ashland area.
- Crews addressed two gas releases, stopping them at 8:18 a.m. and 9:25 a.m., before an explosion about 10 minutes later leveled a home and ignited a three-alarm fire.
- Six people were hospitalized, including three PG&E employees, and officials say the three initially listed in serious condition are now stable.
- Roughly 75 firefighters contained fires that destroyed or severely damaged at least three structures as nearby homes reported blown-out windows and new cracks.
- The NTSB, PG&E, Cal/OSHA and local agencies have opened investigations, gas service remains shut off to affected homes and several residences are uninhabitable.
