NTA Will Reconduct Three UGC‑NET Papers After Panel Finds Widespread Errors

The Education Ministry has ordered a full audit plus an operational overhaul of exam systems to shore up test security.

Overview

  • The National Testing Agency said it will re‑conduct the English and Commerce papers on September 9 and the Sociology paper on September 10 at no extra charge to candidates.
  • An internal NTA committee found numerous factual, typographical, translation and grammatical mistakes and a large number of repeated questions, leading the agency to scrap the three June papers rather than remove disputed items.
  • The Education Minister directed a thorough audit of NTA exam processes and ordered a fast overhaul of Confidential Operations (CONOPS) including secluded rooms, air‑gapped systems and device‑deposit protocols.
  • NTA removed more than 50 staff and has advertised senior specialist roles such as CTO, CISO and head of psychometrics as part of organisational reforms intended to tighten cyber and question‑setting safeguards.
  • Opposition leaders and student groups have demanded accountability and probes while affected candidates face extra travel, preparation and potential delays to fellowship, faculty eligibility and PhD admission timelines.
