Overview
- The National Testing Agency told the Central Information Commission that it is finalising a DigiLocker-based mechanism to let candidates retrieve NEET scorecards from previous years after authentication.
- The disclosure came during an RTI appeal by a 2020 NEET-UG candidate who sought a certified scorecard for National Board of Examinations/FMGE eligibility verification.
- The NTA said it could not supply the appellant’s 2020 scorecard because result records are retained only for 90 days under Clause 15.6 and the files had been weeded out, and the Information Commissioner upheld that a CPIO cannot create records not held in office files.
- DigiLocker is the government’s digital locker run under MeitY and would shift retrieval from ad hoc record searches to a standard, authenticated access channel for official documents.
- The mechanism is reported to be in its final stages but is not yet operational, so candidates still face verification delays until the NTA confirms rollout timing and the platform is live.
